Wrongful death: SUV driver arrested after striking motorcyclist

Motorcyclists in Florida and elsewhere will always be vulnerable. The smaller size of a motorcycle and the fact that auto drivers often don’t see bikers approach lead to many accidents in which motorcyclists lose their lives. A significant number of wrongful death lawsuits that move through the state’s civil courts involve car vs. motorcycle accidents.

A 32-year-old motorcyclist was the victim of such a collision on a recent Tuesday. According to a report by Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 192. Deputies say a 70-year-old man was heading east on the highway and failed to notice an oncoming motorcycle when he attempted to turn left.

Reportedly, he put his SUV directly in the path of a 32-year-old motorcycle rider. The impact of the collision caused the biker to be ejected. Authorities say the motorcyclist was rushed to a hospital in the area, but, sadly, he succumbed to his injuries later. According to the sheriff’s office, the SUV driver failed to remain at the crash scene, but he was located and arrested later that day.

When a loved one is killed in a crash that resulted from another party’s negligence or wrongdoing, the surviving family members can pursue financial relief. There will be unanticipated expenses related to end-of-life arrangements and the sudden loss of income with which they might have to cope. An experienced Florida wrongful death attorney can advocate for the surviving family members throughout the civil lawsuit to recover economic and noneconomic damages.
